DAY 2: ATHENS - CORINTH - MYCENAE - EPIDAURUS - NAFPLIO

Next morning after your breakfast you will be driven west and you will have the chance to enjoy the magnificent Greek coastal scenery.

The Corinth Canal will be our First short stop, The Isthmus of Corinth, the narrow piece of land that once linked a strip of land and now with the canal separates the Peloponnese from Central Greece, connecting the two seas, the Corinthian and the Saronic Gulf. After 30 minutes stop on the Corinth Canal, your chauffer will drive you through the winding country local roads through olive trees, vineyards and orange trees to Ancient Corinth.

''ΟΥ ΠΑΝΤΟΣ ΠΛΕΙΝ ΕΣ ΚΟΡΙΝΘΟΝ'' and indeed, it was not easy for everyone to anchor in this rich city. In ancient times, Corinth was amongst the richest cities and this is quite evident by its remains, including the huge Roman Agora (marketplace) and Apollo’s Temple, constructed in the 6th century BC. Away from its archaeological and historical interest Ancient Corinth is also one of the most popular religious destinations in Greece. This was where the Apostle Paul preached Christianity, was judged by the tribunal in the Agora and established the best organized Christian church of that period. The Archaeological Museum is of great interest since it is a great introductory to the famous Corinthian  pottery and Mosaic Art.

In the second part of our tour we will travel together back in time and explore the times just before the outburst of the Trojan War by visiting Mycenae. ( a UNESCO Heritage site ). They were the Kingdom of Atreus and Agamemnon and is the most important and rich palatial center of the late bronze age in Greece, With AGT (Athens Greece Transfers and Tours) you will have the chance to tour the ancient ruins of the city and explore the Lion's Gate located at the entrance of the Acropolis, the Treasury of Atreus, the tomb of Agamemnon and in the Acropolis the six Royal Tombs. Beyond it the 14 basilicas and 12 private vaulfed Tombs, while we will also visit the Museum.

Our next stop is the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus ( UNESCO World Heritage site ). Epidaurus was the center of Greek medical world and the birthplace of Asclepius, patron god of medicine. Psychotherapy, hydrotherapy and brain sungery were some of the treatments performed here. Epidaurus is probably most famous for its Theater, one of the best preserved Classical Greek buildings and still used today due to its amazing acoustics.

Bringing us to our last stop for the day in Nafplio, the first capital of modern Greece after the 1821 revolution. Here, you will have the opportunity to visit the medieval castle of Palamidi, explore the old city of Nafplio and have a traditional Greek lunch beside the sea with amazing views of Bourtzi islet in the middle of the port. Next stop will be the hotel and after you rest, you will have free time to discover more things in this historical city.

Also visit the MUSEUM that displays Praxiteles' magnificent statue of Hermes.  with its perfect analogies and tools that belonged to Phidias himself. With these tools he managed to create one of the Seven Wonders of the World “the gold ivory statue of Zeus”.  Then we will settle at the hotel, free time and Overnight in Olympia.

DAY 4: PATRA - RIO ANTIRIO BRIDGE -  DELPHI

The next day we will drive from Ancient Olympia to the busy seaport of Patras, Continuing we will meet the bridge of Rio – Antirio (Charilaos Trikoupis) that connects the Peloponnese peninsula to the Greek mainland. Considered a miracle of engineering this bridge is one of the world’s longest multi-span cable –stayed bridges and the longest of the fully suspended type. Passing by the port of Itea and one of the most scenic coastlines in Greece making a small stop at Nafpaktos a small town by the sea having a view towards the battlefield where the naval battle of Lepanto took place in 1571 between the Ottoman Empire and the united western powers. and proceed through the picturesque fishing village along the south coast of the mainland to mystic Delphi the  rest of the day is devoted to a fascinating tour of the ANCIENT SANCTUARY of the god Apollo in its dramatic setting on the slopes of the Mount Parnassus. Hear about the Oracle and tour the EXCAVATIONS. Visit to the Archeological Museum to admire the Charioteer, an extraordinary 5th century BC bronze statue. After the site we will have our lunch at the modern village of Delphi with a view of the mountains of Fokis,  and our last destination for the day will be the village of Arachova. A mountainous village built on a cliff 900m above sea level very close to the Parnassus ski resort. You will have time for an evening walk and enjoy a local dinner.

DAY 5: KALAMBAKA  - METEORA

Next morning after your breakfast you will be driven North via Lamia and Trikala to Kalambaka. The rest of the day is devoted to an unreal, fantastic landscape of Meteora with its 24 rock-top monasteries. Your guide leads you to the base of the gigantic rocks and explains that sitting atop those boulders are Monasteries that date back 1,000 years. A network of steps leads to the top of the bluffs. The view the valley below is breathtaking. You can see beyond the foothills of the encompassing mountain to the valley beyond Kalambaka. The small mesas rise 984 feet above the valley floor. The Great Meteoron Monastery is the largest of the six remaining monasteries of the area. It was founded in the 14th-century and has preserved the historic frescoes glistening inside the church.

The tower structure with a timber roof holds a winch used to hoist supplies up the hillside. From below, the monasteries looked as though they were suspended in mid-air. From the top, you can wander around the jutting rocks and windswept grass. The frescoes showcase elements of Greek Byzantine art dating back to the 15th-century. The unique placement of the churches, and their magnificent décor that exemplifies the monk’s dedication to their faith makes the monasteries at Meteora special. After your visit to some of the Monasteries, You will have time for an evening walk and enjoy a local dinner.

Overnight Kalambaka or Kastraki village.

DAY 6: METEORA - ATHENS

This day you will have a tour to the mushroom museum or a truffle hunting tour and taste fresh truffles. The Natural History Museum of Meteora and Mushroom Museum is proposing an amazing experience: Truffle hunting under the rocks of Meteora!
